Welcome to Movie The Needle, a film podcast from two self-proclaimed idiots – Carl and Simon.

Since 2024 we’ve been releasing ‘Movie The Needle’ episodes covering films that one of us likes, and the other…well, not so much. And we try to convince each other that they are wrong.

We also have a number of different episode formats:

Mashflix and Chill – Simon and Carl are joined by a guest from another podcast to discuss a movie mashup – two films which when mashed together, create a third film. We talk about the two films making the mash and go into detail on the resultant film. Oh and we play a game to test the guest’s movie knoweldge against Carl’s. Released every 8th of the month.

Classics Collection – We discuss one of the movies we think has the stamina (stands the test of time), girth (broad appeal) and penetration (memorable characters, quotes, scenes) and decide whether it makes it into the MTN Classics Collection. Released every 15th of the month.

Retro – We look back on the episodes released the month before, address listener feedback, dig into some data and ay lingering thoughts from the film. Carl does a blind ranking, Si sings a song, we do some top 3’s, suggest some classics for submission into the Classics Collection, as well as talking about what we’ve both watched in the last month…plus plenty of other nonsense. Released the 22nd of the month.

Sometimes, when the mood takes us, we might do something a little bit special and seasonal and release an EXTRA episode – think Oscars, or a Christmas special.

We don’t take ourselves too seriously, and neither does anyone else.
